Chippewa Men Welcome Olivet On Sunday

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan men's basketball team returns to McGuirk Arena on Sunday (1 p.m.) to take on Olivet in a nonconference game.
The Chippewas (3-4) dropped their Mid-American Conference opener on Friday at Western Michigan, 76-61.
Meikkel Murray, a junior in his first year at CMU, scored a career-high 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Chippewas, who shot a season-low 34.9 percent from the floor against the Broncos.
Leaders
Senior Travon Broadway Jr. leads the Chippewas in scoring at 15.0 points per game. Three others – Devontae Lane (11.6), Murray (11.1) and Caleb Huffman (10.6) – also average in double figures.
Murray is CMU's leading rebounder at 6.3 per game, while Broadway averages 5.4. Murray, a native of the Bronx who came to CMU via Coffeyville (Kan.) CC, has made eight rebounds in each of CMU's last four games.

The Chippewas rank 13th (tied) nationally with 10.3 steals per game.
Scouting
Sunday's game is the first of the season for the Division III Comets, who finished 6-19 last season under first-year coach Sam Hargraves, who formerly coached at Alma.
The Comets return two of their top three scorers in Eddie Thigpen and Chris Martin, both are 6-foot-5 juniors. Thigpen averaged 15.2 points and 4.3 rebounds in 2019-20, while Martin averaged 10.8 points.
