Baseball Opens Spring Break Trip With 12-6 Victory

Freshman Jakob Marsee provides fireworks with grand slam
The Chippewas snapped a three-game losing streak. They are scheduled to play North Florida in a doubleheader on Saturday (1 p.m.). Both games are scheduled for seven innings.
Big Hits
Marsee's grand slam came on an 0-2 pitch and cleared the wall in right field, highlighting a five-run fifth inning that extended the Chippewas' lead to 12-1.
It was Marsee's first career homer. His fourth-inning RBI bunt single was his first career hit and RBI.
CMU sent 11 men to the plate in scoring seven runs in the fourth. Freshman Zach Lechnir and sophomore Garrett Navarra each had a two-run double to highlight the inning.
"Our offense was sparked by some great bunts in both big innings," CMU coach Jordan Bischel said. "Marsee and Lechnir had a couple of huge hits to break open those innings."
At the Plate
Chase Rollin, Lechnir and Zavier Warren finished with two hits apiece. Lechnir drove in three runs.
On the Mound
Freshman right-hander Clayton Brock (1-0), the third Chippewa pitcher, earned the win. He allowed one run on three hits, struck out two and walked one over 1 1/3 innings.
Freshman right-hander Andrew Taylor allowed just one hit over three innings in his first career start.
"I thought Andrew Taylor did an outstanding job in his first career start," Bischel said.
Ryan Palmblad, Logan Buczkowski, Tyler Hankins and Grant Frazer also pitched in relief. Frazer came on with one out and the bases loaded in the ninth and got a strikeout and a groundout to end it.
