Baseball Sweeps, Ups Win Streak To 3 Games

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Central Michigan baseball team used big innings in both games on Saturday in sweeping a nonconference doubleheader from North Florida at the Ospreys' Harmon Stadium.

The sweep upped CMU's win streak to three games as it improved to 9-5. The Chippewas will look to complete the sweep of the four-game series on Sunday (noon).

Both of Saturday's games went seven innings.

Game One
The Chippewas scored three runs in the sixth inning in posting a 5-2 victory.

The Chippewas used two walks and a Zach Gilles bunt single to load the bases in the sixth, then got an RBI single from Chase Rollin to go ahead, 2-1. Zach Lechnir followed with a two-run single to up the lead to 4-1.

Zavier Warren added an RBI double in the seventh. Aidan Shepardson drove in CMU's first run with a fifth-inning single. Lechnir had three of CMU's eight hits.

Jordan Patty (3-0) earned the win, going 5 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs on six hits, walked two, and struck out one.

Ian Leatherman went the final 1 2/3 innings in picking up the save, his second. He set down all five Ospreys that he faced, striking out one.

Game Two
The Chippewas used a four-run fourth inning to take the lead for good in posting a 6-4 win in the nightcap.

CMU broke a 1-1 tie when Shepardson reached on an error, went to third on a Garrett Navarra single, and scored on a wild pitch.

Zach Heeke bunted for a single and then a ball off the bat of Warren went for an error, allowing Navarra to score. A walk to Griffin Lockwood-Powell loaded the bases and then the Ospreys committed another error on a ball off the bat of Gilles, allowing Heeke to score.

Rollin then delivered an RBI groundout. North Florida committed three errors in the inning and five in the game. Just one of the Chippewas' six runs was earned.

Warren and Zach Lechnir finished with two hits apiece.

Cameron Brown (1-2) earned the win with 4 1/ innings of relief. He allowed four runs on six hits, walked four and struck out three.

Cameron Miller went the final 1 2/3 innings for his first save. He struck out two.
