Hammond Leads Outstanding Bars Performance By Chippewa Gymnasts

DURHAM, N.H. – Audriana Hammond set a career high on the uneven parallel bars to highlight the performance of the Central Michigan gymnasts on Sunday during their nonconference quad meet at New Hampshire's Whittemore Center.
Hammond, a freshman from Elk Rapids, posted a 9.950 to win the event. Her previous career best was a 9.800, which she set last weekend at Illinois.
Hammond's score ties Hannah DeMers for the best bar score recorded by a Chippewa this season. Entering Sunday's action, only 11 bar scores nationwide have been better than those of Hammond and DeMers.
The Chippewas finished with a 195.175 team score to place third in the quad. Rutgers (195.900) was first, while Auburn (195.825) was second. Host New Hampshire was fourth (195.075).
Hammond led a strong CMU showing on bars as the Chippewas finished with a season-best 49.450, the best score of the day in any event among the four teams. The CMU program record is 49.550.
CMU's Denelle Pedrick tied for second with a career-high-equaling 9.900, while Sydney Williams and DeMers tied for fourth. Both scored 9.875, which matched Williams' career high. CMU's Kennedy Rae Johnson scored a season-best 9.850, while Savana Kotas posted a 9.825, matching her career best.
Sierra Demarinis led the Chippewas on vault with a season-high 9.850. She placed third. DeMers (9.825) was fourth.
CMU's Morgan Tong tied for third on balance beam with a 9.850, while DeMers tied for third and Williams tied for fifth on floor exercise. DeMers posted a 9.825, Williams a 9.800.
