CMU student-athletes earned a cumulative GPA of 3.388 for the spring term of 2020 for the 43rd consecutive semester
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Following the completion of another academic year and the release of grades, Central Michigan student-athletes continue to demonstrate a strong commitment to excelling both in the classroom and in competition.
CMU student-athletes earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.388 for the spring term of 2020, marking the 43rd consecutive semester that the collective GPA has been 3.00 or higher.
Overall, the cumulative GPA of Chippewa student-athletes currently stands at is 3.236.
"It is with great pride that we share these impressive numbers," said Zyzlewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Michael Alford. "It exemplifies Central Michigan's commitment to recruiting outstanding students in addition to exceptional athletes. When student-athletes make the decision to attend CMU, they understand the level of commitment it takes to uphold our strong academic tradition."
For our student-athletes to be able maintain their focus on academics this spring, under the extraordinary and challenging circumstances they faced, is a credit to their character and dedication."
Among the highlights for 2020 spring semester are:
• 345 student-athletes earned a 3.00 or higher for the 2020 spring semester;
• 56 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.00 GPA for the 2020 spring semester and will be named to the President's List;
• 237 student-athletes earned a 3.50 or higher for the 2020 spring semester, placing them on the Dean's List;
Overall, 176 student-athletes currently maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.
The women's cross country (3.851 GPA), gymnastics (3.789 GPA) and baseball teams (3.522 GPA) had particularly strong spring semesters academically.
Recently, the NCAA released the Academic Progress Rate Institutional Report, revealing Central Michigan Athletics' single-year mark of 989, the highest in CMU history. Nine teams had a single-year APR of 1,000 – baseball, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, men's indoor and outdoor track & field, softball, women's cross country and wrestling.
