Six Chippewas Named A MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Six Central Michigan student-athletes have been named a Distinguished Scholar Athlete by the Mid-American Conference for the winter, 2020 season.
The Distinguished Scholar Athlete is an award in its sixth year given to student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. The honorees, 77 in this case, are the best of the best as selected by the faculty athletic representatives of each of the MAC's 12 fulltime institutions.
Chippewa gymnast Denelle Pedrick received the honor for the third-consecutive year, while CMU wrestler Drew Hildebrandt was so honored for the second straight year.
In addition, Logan Targgart, a member of the CMU men's indoor track & field team, was named a Distinguished Scholar Athlete for the fourth time in his career. His three previous league Distinguished Scholar Athlete Awards came as a member of the CMU men's outdoor track & field squad.
The three other Chippewas to receive the honor are wrestler Dresden Simon, gymnast Morgan Tong, and Kyra Bussell of the women's basketball team.
Pedrick, a senior from Wilcox, Sask., Can., is an exercise science major with a 3.78 grade point average; Hildebrandt, a junior from Granger, Ind., is a finance major who carries a 3.64 GPA; Targgart, a senior from Coldwater, is a personal finance major with a 3.78 GPA; Simon, a junior from Dansville, is a sport management major with a 3.50 GPA; Tong, a sophomore from Markham, Ont., Can., is a mathematics major with a 3.61 GPA; and Bussell is a junior exercise science major from Grand Rapids who carries a 3.98 GPA.
