Brown Named To Nagurski Watch List

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan's Troy Brown has been named to the watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which goes to the defensive player of the year in college football.
Brown, a junior linebacker from Flint, earned First Team All-Mid-American Conference honors and was named the Herb Deromedi Team Most Valuable Player in a vote of teammates in 2019.
A team captain, Brown led the Chippewas in total tackles (91) and solo tackles (75) last season, leading the Chippewas to an 8-6 finish, the MAC West title, a berth in the league-championship game, and an appearance in the New Mexico Bowl.
Brown made 16.5 tackles-for-loss last season, leading the MAC and ranking 23rd nationally. He also had three interceptions.
Brown is one of 98 players nationwide and one of five representing a MAC school to make the Nagurski Trophy list. The trophy is presented by the Football Writers Association of America in conjunction with the Charlotte Touchdown Club.
Brown was named last week to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list. The Bednarik Award goes annually to the outstanding defensive player in college football.
