Allendesalazar, CMU Golfers Lead After 36 Holes

CMU eyeing third victory of fall, 2021 season
PORT CLINTON, Ohio – Casilda Allendesalazar shot 74-72 – 146 as the Central Michigan women's golf team seized the lead on the first day of the Rocket Classic hosted by Toledo at Catawba Island Club.
The Chippewas posted an opening-round 300 and followed with a second-round 299 and lead the 10-team tournament at 599. Toledo (613) is second and Cincinnati (622) is third.
Allendesalazar, a freshman Madrid, Spain, leads the tournament by one shot over Sadie Pan (74-73—147) of Cincinnati.
CMU's Padgett Chitty opened with a career-best 1-under 71 and then followed with a 77. She is third (148), two shots behind Allendesalazar.
The Chippewas' Claudia Salvador is tied for seventh at 152 after shooting 80-72. Also for CMU, Ashley Goh shot 78-78—156 and is tied for 17th, and Zoe Vartyan shot 77-82—159 and is tied for 29th.
CMU's Rachel Kauflin, playing as an individual, shot 81-86—167. The field comprises 63 players.
The third and final round of the 54-hole tournament is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The Chippewas are vying for their third victory of the 2021-22 season. They won their own season-opening A-Ga-Ming Invitational in Kewadin, and then followed with a victory at the Oakland Golden Grizzlies Invitational in Rochester. A week ago they finished second, by two shots at the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational in Ypsilanti.
Allendesalazar and Chitty shared medalist honors at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational. Allendesalazar also has a tie for fourth and a tie for ninth in the Chippewas other two tournaments this season.
Allendesalazar and Goh each made a tournament-high six birdies during Monday's 36 holes. Chitty led the field with 27 pars. As a team, the Chippewas made a tourney-best 22 birdies on Monday and were second with 107 pars.
