Volleyball Falls At Miami

OXFORD, Ohio -- The Central Michigan volleyball team dropped its second consecutive match to Miami (Ohio) on Saturday at Millett Hall.

The four-set loss dropped the Chippewas to 9-14, 3-8 MAC. Miami improved to 5-16, 3-8.

CMU is scheduled to host Akron (9-13, 3-7) on Oct. 29 (6 p.m.) at McGuirk Arena.

The Chippewas and the RedHawks battled through the first set intensely, keeping the score close. CMU forced a Miami timeout at 17-15 before the RedHawks fought back with a run, bringing on a Chippewa timeout. The RedHawks' momentum kept rolling as they took set one, 25-19.

The second frame followed a similar script. The Chippewas seized the early lead before the RedHawks began matching the pace, maintaining a tight score. The teams entered a deuce at the end of the set, in which the RedHawks came out on top, 29-27.

CMU found a rocket start yet again in set three, but this time kept a foot on the gas. The Chippewas did not commit an attack error while the RedHawks committed nine as CMU claimed the set, 25-15.

The Chippewas and the RedHawks fought closely in the fourth and final set. CMU pulled into a 23-22 lead, resulting in a Miami timeout before the RedHawks swooped in for the final three points of the match and won, 25-23.

Savannah Thompson finished with 25 kills to lead the Chippewas, while Lisbeth Rosario-Martinez added nine along with seven blocks.

CMU setters Kamryn Olson and Grace Butler posted 30 and 23 assists, respectively.
