Chippewa Volleyball Falls to Blue Demons in First Match in Chicago

The first day in the Windy City ended in a 0-3 loss for the Central Michigan Volleyball team against Depaul.
CHICAGO – On Friday evening, the Central Michigan Volleyball team fell to DePaul 0-3 to start the tournament hosted by the Blue Demons and the UIC Flames. CMU moves to 0-8 on the year and DePaul shifts to 5-2 on the 2026 season.
Taylor Cripe led CMU with 11 kills and posted a nine digs. Brenna Storz and Alexis Carper both recorded four kills. At the service line, four different Chippewas tallied aces; Cripe, Storz, Lilly Mullholand and Brytn Lyon.
How it happened
The Chippewas fell into a 0-4 hole early in the first set, but Cripe got CMU on the board to bring it to 1-4.
With the Chippewas trailing 3-9, Central Michigan Head Coach Arielle Wilson called her first timeout of the evening. At the media timeout, CMU trailed 6-15.
The Chippewas went on a 3-0 run and faced set point at 11-24, but DePaul took the first set 25-14.
Lyon opened the second set with an ace to give CMU the early 1-0 lead. Afterward, DePaul went on a 7-0 run and ended up dropping the second set 11-25 to the Demons.
Brenna Storz started the third set with her third kill of the night, starting the set with a point for the Chippewas.
Set three started in a close battle with the two teams tied at 4-4, but DePaul extended the lead to three at 5-8. The Chippewas tied the set at eight with a kill from Lilly Mullholand and a solo block plus a kill from Storz. Alexis Carper put CMU in the lead 10-9 with an ace.
Central Michigan found itself down 10-12. Storz charted a kill to get CMU its 11th point of the match, but the Chippewas trailed 11-15 heading into the media timeout.
The Chippewas challenged match point, but their attempt was unsuccessful and they dropped the third set 13-25.
Central Michigan will take on Auburn and UIC on Saturday, September 12 to close out the trip to Illinois. The Chippewas will play the Tigers at 1 p.m. (ET)/Noon (CT) and the Flames at 7 pm (ET)/6 pm (CT).
