Volleyball Starts MAC Weekend Road Trip With A Win At Kent State

Chippewas play at Ohio on Saturday
KENT, Ohio – Savannah Thompson finished with 14 kills on Friday in leading the Central Michigan volleyball team to a four-set Mid-American Conference victory over Kent State at the Flashes' Memorial Athletic Center.
The Chippewas snapped a three-match losing streak in improving to 8-9, 2-3 MAC. It was the fourth straight loss for Kent State, 6-11, 1-4.
CMU is scheduled to play at Ohio on Saturday (1:30 p.m.) in a MAC match. Ohio is 1-15, 1-4 after dropping a four-setter at home on Friday to Eastern Michigan.
Lisbeth Rosario-Martinez added 13 kills and Lauren Schrock had 12 for the Chippewas against Kent State. It was the first extended action of the season for Schrock, a freshman from Mount Vernon, Iowa.
CMU trailed throughout the first set until forging a 17-17 tie. Down 23-21, the Chippewas scored the final four points to claim the set and seize momentum.
Set two was tied, 12-12, when the Chippewas scored six of the next seven points to go up, 18-13. The Golden Flashes never got closer than four points the rest of the way.
CMU led in a tight third set, 18-17, when Kent State surged, scoring five consecutive points to go in front, 22-18. The Chippewas never got closer than three points the rest of the way.
CMU closed out the match in the fourth set, rallying from a 14-10 deficit to tie it, 14-14. The set was tied six more times thereafter, the last at 23. Thompson recorded a kill to put CMU up, 24-23, and then Kent State attack error gave CMU the final point of the night.
CMU setters Kamryn Olson and Grace Butler finished with 30 and 24 assists, respectively. The 30 assists marked a season high for Olson. CMU finished with 60 assists, matching its season best.
Chippewa libero Aly Gurtiza recorded a team-high 28 digs, while Thompson added 21.
The Chippewas finished with a .232 hitting percentage on the night to Kent State's .193.
