Volleyball Welcomes Akron For 2

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan volleyball team is set to entertain Akron on Thursday in the opener of a two-match Mid-American Conference series at McGuirk Arena.
The Chippewas and Zips square off on Thursday at 6 p.m. and are slated to play the finale on Friday (2 p.m.).
CMU is 5-5, both overall and in the league, and is coming off a pair of wins – the first a four-setter, the second a three-set sweep – at Buffalo last weekend. CMU is tied with Ball State for second place in the MAC West, two games behind Western Michigan.
Akron is 3-7. The Zips split a pair last week at home with Eastern Michigan.
The Chippewas
CMU hit a season-best .274 in its sweep last Friday of the Bulls. The Chippewas' previous season best, .264, came in their opening match at Buffalo.
CMU ranks fifth in the conference with a .216 hitting percentage, is sixth in kills per set (13.13), and fifth in blocks per set (2.18).
CMU senior middle blocker Lisbeth Rosario-Martinez leads the MAC with a .442 hitting percentage.
Two Chippewas, junior Savannah Thompson and sophomore Anna Erickson, rank in the top 10 in kills per set. Thompson (3.54) is seventh and Erickson (3.25) is 10th.
Scouting
The Zips are last in the league in hitting percentage (.155) and 10th in both kills per set (12.00) and blocks per set (1.88).
Senior setter Emily Wiegand leads the MAC in both aces (20) and aces per set (0.53), while defensive specialist Taylor Sharrits leads the conference with 238 digs and ranks second with 6.26 digs per set.
Alexis Adleta and Shelby Fulmer share the team lead in kills with 54 apiece.

The Chippewas will remain at home next week when they entertain MAC East-leading Bowling Green on Thursday and Friday, March 4-5. The Falcons are 9-0 and are scheduled to play two matches at Kent State this week.
