Chippewas improve to 4-0-1, lead MAC West and are tied for first overall in the league
DEKALB, Ill. – Freshman Jaelyn Dobrowolski scored her first career goal and junior Chesney Wargo scored her first of the season on Sunday as the Central Michigan soccer team ran its win streak to four games with a 3-0 victory over Northern Illinois at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
The Chippewas are 4-1-0 and lead the MAC West and they share the overall league lead with Bowling Green, which is also 4-1-0.
Samantha Kaye-Toral also scored, giving her two goals in the Chippewas' last two games. Natalie Belsito and Maria Kaschalk each had an assists.
The Chippewas outshot the Huskies, 14-3, including a 9-1 edge in shots on goal. CMU also finished with a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
"We did not get a hotel room (Saturday) night, so we drove five hours (Sunday) morning, stepped off the bus and played," CMU coach Jeremy Groves said. "We really showed up, and I am very proud of the girls for that.
"It was a full-squad effort today. it is always nice to get some substitutes into the game, and we got to do that today. They played very well and contributed a ton to our win."
CMU keeper Allison LaPoint, a freshman, recorded one save in earning the shutout, her second.
Central Michigan is scheduled to square off with Ball State in Muncie, Ind. on Friday, March 26 (4 p.m.). The Chippewas defeated the Cardinals, 2-1 in overtime, on March 7 in Mount Pleasant.
