MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan held a decided advantage in shots and shots on goal.
Unfortunately, the only number that really matters was on the side of Eastern Michigan.
Amanda Cripps scored on a penalty kick in the 38th minute on Thursday as the Eagles handed CMU a 1-0 Mid-American Conference soccer loss at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
The Chippewas slipped to 4-3-0; Eastern is 5-2-0. The Chippewas finished with a 20-8 edge in shots including an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.
"We really had some good pushes and possessions especially in the second half when the wind was against us," CMU coach Jeremy Groves said. "We just didn't score the goals when we were in position to.
"On a different day, a lot of the opportunities we were giving ourselves will score two or three goals; we just have to put them in."
CMU goalkeeper Allison LaPoint made two saves. Eastern Michigan's Chelsea Abbotts made eight.
It was the Chippewas' second loss of the season to the Eagles.
The Chippewas' game with Toledo scheduled for Sunday has been postponed. They will face Western Michigan in Kalamazoo on April 8 (4 p.m.).
