4/24/2021 3:43:00 PM | Lacrosse
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Central Michigan lacrosse fell to Robert Morris, 20-10, on Saturday in a big Mid-American Conference game at the Colonials' Joe Walton Stadium.
Â
The loss leaves CMU 6-2, 4-2 MAC and 2 ½ games behind the Colonials in the MAC standings. Robert Morris is 11-2, 7-0.
Â
The Colonials outshot the Chippewas 44-21 with 32 shots on goal compared to Central's 17.
Â
"Robert Morris absolutely is a strong team," said CMU coach Sara Tisdale, whose team was playing its first game in three weeks. "I give them a lot of credit. You could tell how much they wanted it today.
Â
"I'll take this one, as a head coach. We made tough choices this week to get our team ready and I think, in reflection I can learn a lot from this. We pushed them hard to get ready to play; obviously it's a very physical game especially against Robert Morris."
Â
The Chippewas seized an early 4-2 lead and was up 5-4 when Robert Morris went on a 10-0 run, scoring the final five goals of the first half and the first five of the second for a 14-5 lead. CMU managed to trim its deficit to five, 15-10, with 16 minutes remaining, but Robert Morris scored the game's final five goals to pull away.
Â
"When we executed our offense and trusted our game plan, it was really impressive," Tisdale said.
Â
Natalie Karlen scored six goals and added an assist to lead the Chippewas.
Â
"She wants to compete," Tisdale said. "She played a good 60 minutes and did what we asked of her as a leader."
Â
Maggie Diebold added three goals. Chippewa goalkeepers Sierra Savage and Erin Owens combined to make 12 saves.
Â
The Chippewas are scheduled to entertain Kent State in a MAC game on Wednesday, April 28 (3 p.m.) at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
