Chippewas Sweep Weekly MAC Lacrosse Awards

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan swept the weekly Mid-American Conference awards for lacrosse after the Chippewas rolled to a pair of league victories last week.
CMU's Natalie Karlen was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week and Brianna Hart was named the Defensive Player of the Week for their respective performances in a 21-14 win at Kent State and a 17-7 victory at Akron.
Karlen, a senior from Hagerstown, Md., had a weekend for the record books, registering a total of 20 points. Against Kent State, Karlen became the first player in program history to reach the 200-point career benchmark and broke the CMU record for goals (10) and points (13) in a game. Her 10 goals rank No. 5 in the NCAA record book and her 13 tie her for third in NCAA history. Against Akron, Karlen continued her strong play with a game-high five goals along with two assists. She leads the MAC in goals (41) and points (53) and ranks fifth nationally in goals and seventh in points
Hart, a senior from South Bend, Ind., spearheaded a Chippewa defense that forced 25 Kent State turnovers and then limited Akron to seven goals. Hart had three draw controls and two ground balls against the Golden Flashes; against Akron, Hart recorded five draw controls, two caused turnovers and one ground balls. Hart was also instrumental in CMU going a perfect 9-for-9 on clears. Hart ranks fourth in the MAC in ground balls (30) and ninth in caused turnovers (14).
This marks the second time this season Karlen and Hart have swept the MAC's weekly awards. Hart has won defensive player of the week a total of three times.
