Sixteen On Athlon Football All-MAC Preseason Teams

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – A league-high 16 Central Michigan football players have been named to the Athlon Sports All-Mid-American Conference Preseason Team.
Five Chippewas were named to the first team, including offensive lineman Derek Smith, defensive lineman Troy Hairston II, and linebacker Troy Brown. Smith and Hairston are seniors, while Brown is a junior.
Two CMU specialists, freshman placekicker Marshall Meeder and redshirt freshman punter Luke Elzinga, were also named to the first team.
Three Chippewas, running back Lew Nichols III, safety Willie Reid and Kalil Pimpleton, were named to the second team. Pimpleton, a junior, made the squad both as a wide receiver and as a punt returner. Nichols is a redshirt freshman and Reid is a sophomore.
The third team includes CMU running back Kobe Lewis, offensive lineman Bernhard Raimann, defensive lineman LaQuan Johnson Jr. and cornerback Dishon McNary. Lewis, Raimann and McNary are juniors; Johnson is a sophomore.
The fourth team includes Chippewa wide receiver JaCorey Sullivan, offensive lineman Luke Goedeke, defensive lineman Robi Stuart, and cornerback Devonni Reed. Sullivan and Stuart are seniors, while Goedeke and Reed are juniors.
The Chippewas are scheduled to open the season at Missouri on Saturday, Sept. 4, and entertain Robert Morris in their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 11.
