MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan football coach Jim McElwain has named former NFL defensive lineman Ian Scott to his staff as the defensive line coach.
Scott spent the last three seasons on the defensive staff at Central Florida after serving as defensive-line graduate assistant under McElwain at Florida during the 2017 season. He was an assistant coach for two years at Daniel (S.C.) High School before joining McElwain's staff in Gainsville.
Scott played three years as a defensive lineman at Florida, twice earning All-Southeastern Conference Second Team honors and helping the Gators to the 2000 SEC championship. He was named in 2001 to the SEC All-Academic team.
"We are thrilled to have Ian Scott join our program, he is a fantastic addition as our new defensive line coach," head coach Jim McElwain said. "He brings great experience as a player and coach especially with his outstanding career in the NFL. I know our guys are looking forward to working with him and he will be a good fit on our staff."
Scott played in the NFL with the Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers and San Diego Chargers from 2003-09. He played on four division championship teams, two with the Bears and two with the Chargers, and played in Super Bowl XLI with the Bears.
