MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Megan Niswonger has joined the Central Michigan field hockey program as an assistant coach.
"I am excited to have Megan join our program, she will be a great addition," head coach Catherine Ostoich said. "With her background as a two-sport student-athlete, she brings a unique perspective and approach for our student-athletes to learn how to be successful on and off the pitch. Her roots in Michigan will be a tremendous asset in recruiting. She knows the state and has ties to many of the top club programs."
Niswonger, a Dexter, Mich. native, comes to CMU from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, where she played field hockey and softball, serving as a captain for both. Niswonger graduated from Wittenberg in May, 2021 with a degree in sport management.
Niswonger was a three-year starter in field hockey, earning first team all-region and all-conference honors as a junior. She finished her career with 14 goals and 13 assists. Her senior season was canceled due to the pandemic. She also played three seasons with the Wittenberg softball program, appearing in 75 games with a .306 career batting average. She had 63 hits and scored 23 runs .
Niswonger served as a Student-Athletic Advisory Committee representative during her time at Wittenberg.
Niswonger completed an internship with Legacy Sport Complex in Brighton, Mich. over the summer and she served as an assistant coach with Pinnacle Field Hockey in 2020. She also assisted with the Hurricanes Fast Pitch program for three years.
