YPSILANTI, Mich. – Eastern Michigan built a double-digit lead with under seven minutes remaining in the first half on Tuesday in downing Central Michigan, 99-68, in a Mid-American Conference men's basketball game at the George Gervin GameAbove Center.
The Chippewas are 2-12, 1-2 MAC. CMU is scheduled to entertain Ohio on Saturday (4:30 p.m.) in a MAC game at McGuirk Arena. Eastern improved to 7-7, 2-1.
Jermaine Jackson Jr. scored 20 points, Ralph Bissainthe added 15, Cameron Healy had 12, and Harrison Henderson added 10 for the Chippewas, who were playing without first-year head coach Tony Barbee and several key players.
The 20 points were a CMU career best for Jackson, a graduate transfer from Long Island.
The Chippewas were outscored, 50-24, in the paint.
Eastern went up 11, 29-18, on a Colin Golson layup with 6:24 to play in the first half. CMU never got its deficit under 10 points after that as the Eagles led, 46-31, at halftime and stretched their lead to as many as 34 points in the second half.
"Our guys put up a fight early," CMU acting head coach Marlon Williamson said. "We've got to put together 40 minutes that really mean something and are significant and I think that's when our outcome will change up.
"We've got a couple guys that are out for us so (our players) are playing more minutes than they probably normally would. But that's not an excuse at all. At the end of the day, when the opportunity comes, you've got to take advantage of it. That's on our staff as well as our players. Every day, we've just got to get better.
"We'll get back to it and make the best of our season. We can still turn this around; it's just going to take a whole lot of effort and pride."
