Track & Field Records Nine Top-10 Finishes At Michigan Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Central Michigan track & field team posted nine top-10 finishes on Saturday at the Michigan Invitational at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
"We competed well," CMU Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jenny Swieton said. "We had a really good first meet (last week) and sometimes when you come off of a really good first meet like that and, you're training really hard, you can be a little flat. I feel like for the most part we competed really well even if the times or marks weren't exactly what some people wanted.
"We put ourselves out there and took some risks in competition and that's what we need to do to give ourselves a chance to be successful. I was really happy with the way everybody competed today."
Jericha Petrella turned in the top finish by a Chippewa as she placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in 57.76 seconds.
CMU's Grace Williamson and Alyssa Vandegriff finished among a group tied for sixth in the high jump at 1.53 meters and Chippewa Hayley Manners finished seventh in the triple jump at 11.58 meters.
CMU's Madi Mandelke, Alexa Davis and Alexis Gourrier finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 800-meter run. Mandelke posted a 2:16.03 time, Davis came in at 2:16.91, and Gourrier finished in 2:17.89.
The Chippewas' Rebecca Herman placed eighth and Emily McLean was 10th in the shot put. Herman's best toss measured 13.89 meters; McLean's at 13.13.
CMU is scheduled to host its annual Jack Skoog Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Jack Skoog Track. It will be CMU's second, and last, home meet of the indoor season.
"I think (the Michigan Invitational) was exactly what we needed going into the Skoog," Swieton said. "We're excited to be back at home next weekend and see what we can do there. After that it's February and that's when things start to get down to the nitty gritty."
