MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Ashley Scesniak and Megan Logue each scored a goal on Sunday as the Central Michigan soccer team played Kent State to a 2-2 tie in a Mid-American Conference game at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
The Chippewas are 2-10-5, 1-5-4 MAC. They entertain Ball State on Thursday (3 p.m.) in their season finale. Kent State is 4-6-7, 4-1-5.
CMU, playing with the southerly wind at its back, led 2-0 at halftime. The Golden Flashes scored in the 67th minute and then got the game-tying goal in the 74thminute.
"For us I think it shows how much we've grown," CMU coach Jeremy Groves said. "Being 2-nil up, I don't think you ever want to tie a game from that position, but we're playing one of the better teams in our league. They're a good team and we knew in the second half they were going to come after us."
CMU is 1-2-2 in its last five games and it has scored seven goals in that stretch. The Chippewas have scored 15 goals on the season.
"I've said it a bunch of times: I think our younger players are starting to play better and understand and I think that's encouraging for our future here," Groves said.
Kent State outshot the Chippewas, 18-5, including 11-1 in the second half when the Golden Flashes played with the strong breeze at their backs. Kent State finished with an 11-5 edge in corner kicks.
Emma Shingler made five saves in goal for CMU.
The goal by Logue was her team-leading fourth of the season, while Scesniak's goal was her third of the year. Scesniak assisted on Logue's goal. It was her fifth assist of the season, and she shares the team lead with Elizabeth Chlystun in that category.
