Softball Splits On Day 2 At Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Central Michigan softball split its two games on Saturday at the season-opening Western Kentucky Hilltopper Classic.
The Chippewas (1-3) opened the day with a 10-1 victory over Bellarmine and then fell to Southeast Missouri State, 12-4. Both games ended after five innings on the run rule.
The Chippewas are set to face Bellarmine (4-5) in their tournament finale on Sunday (Noon).
Katelynn Bean struck out seven in tossing a two-hitter and the Chippewas hit three home runs against Bellarmine.
Shannon Stein, Michaleigh Vallimont and Emily Bracamonte homered to lead the Chippewas' 11-hit attack.
Stein finished with three hits and drove in four runs. Her fifth-inning two-run homer ended the game. Caitlyn Britton and Abbie Tolmie each doubled. Britton drove in two runs.
Bean, a junior right-hander, walked two and threw 84 pitches, 56 of them for strikes. The Chippewas played error-free defense behind her.
SEMO struck for nine runs on nine hits in the first inning in putting the Chippewas in a deep hole.
CMU freshman Alyssa Hollo smacked a fourth-inning three-run homer in her first collegiate at-bat and Stein also homered, while Vallimont doubled.
Starter Grace Lehto took the loss. She allowed seven runs on six hits and left after 2/3 of an inning. Faith Howe, Haley John and Maddy Wallace pitched in relief for CMU.
