Baseball Drops Series Finale At Western Kentucky

After taking the first three games on the weekend from Western Kentucky, Central Michigan dropped a 14-7 nonconference baseball decision to the Hilltoppers on Sunday at WKU's Nick Denes Field.

The Chippewas (3-4) are scheduled to play three games at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C. next weekend. They are slated to play UMass Lowell and the Demon Deacons on Saturday, March 5, and then conclude the weekend against UMass Lowell on Sunday, March 6.

The Demon Deacons, who play in the ACC, are 8-0; UMass Lowell is 1-5.

Western Kentucky (3-4) got a pair of two-run homers in the first inning and then scored twice in the second in putting the Chippewas in a 6-0 hole on Sunday.

CMU managed to draw to 6-4 with a four-run fourth, but the Hilltoppers continued to tack on runs in the ensuing innings to pull away.

Danny Wuestenfeld, Robby Morgan and Aidan Shepardson drove in two runs each for CMU. Colton Coca and Shepardson led CMU with two hits apiece.

Sophomore right-hander Ben Vitas (0-1) started and took the loss. He allowed six runs on six hits in 1 1/3 innings. Ryan Culley, Ryan Insco, Clayton Brock, Garrett Willis, Michael Conte and Drew Alsobrooks pitched in relief, allowing a combined eight runs on eight hits.

WKU starter Devyn Terbrak allowed five runs on seven hits, walked three and struck out six in earning the win.
