Manners Leads Track & Field With Long Jump Win At Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Hayley Manners won the long jump on Friday to lead the Central Michigan contingent at the Notre Dame Meyo Indoor Track & Field Invitational at Loftus Sports Center.
Manners' win was one of four top-10 finishes recorded by CMU student-athletes at Notre Dame. Chippewa student-athletes competing on Friday at the Snowdown Showdown at Grand Valley State in Allendale posted 14 top-to finishes.
Manners, a sophomore, leaped 5.91 meters – 19 feet, 4 ¾ inches -- in the long jump. She edged runner-up Jazmyn Smith of Northern Illinois by one-half inch.
Manners finished ahead of jumpers representing several Big Ten and ACC schools.
The Chippewas also got fourth-place finishes from Olivia Hankey in the pentathlon and from its distance medley relay team comprising Alexis Gourrier, Jericha Petrella, Alexa Davis and Anya Turner. The quartet finished in 12:07.19.
Hankey finished with 3436 points in the pentathlon. She was third in the 800-meter run and in the 60-meter hurdles; she was fourth in the long jump, fifth in the shot put, and sixth in the high jump.
CMU's Emily Paupore placed seventh in the 5,000 meters in 17:23.30.
The Meyo Invitational resumes at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and is scheduled to conclude at approximately 4:15 p.m.
At Grand Valley, the Chippewa throwers combined for six top-10 finishes and three CMU runners placed in the top seven in the 3000-meter run.
CMU's Jelena Prescott led the charge in the 3000, placing third in 10:22.06. Maddy Boyd was fourth in 10:22.26 and Lauren Lasceski placed seventh in 10:32.80.
CMU's Mohogany Wells followed up her strong performance at last week's CMU Skoog Open with a third place in the shot put invite and a fourth in the weight throw invite.
Wells' best shot put measured at 13.96 meters, and her top weight throw covered 18.17 meters. CMU's Rebecca Herman was sixth (13.58 meters) in the shot put invite, and Aliyah Boeve was seventh (17.24 meters) in the weight throw invite.
Freshman Kirsten Spegel placed fourth in the weight throw (14.66 meters) and fifth in the shot put (12.69).
CMU's Maija Rettelle finished fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:20.02; Lindsey Clarke finished sixth in the triple jump, 10.55 meters; Jaci Rife was ninth in the long jump, 5.22 meters; and Annie Laurenz came in 10th in the 400-meter dash, 1:00.50.
Rettelle, Boyd, Lasceski and Haley Hegenauer teamed up for a seventh-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, 4:25.86.
