Softball Drops Nonleaguer At Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Brooke Marquez broke a 1-1 tie with a fifth-inning solo home run on Wednesday as No. 24 Notre Dame handed Central Michigan a 4-1 nonconference softball loss at the Fighting Irish's Melissa Cook Softball Stadium.
The Chippewas (13-13) return to Mid-American Conference play with a series at Kent State beginning on Tuesday, April 5.
Notre Dame (25-6) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly.
The Chippewas tied the game in the third when Abbey Tolmie singled with one out, took second on a Shannon Stein walk, and scored on a Michaleigh Vallimont single.
Vallimont finished with two of the Chippewas' four hits.
Notre Dame added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.
Grace Lehto (6-7) went the distance in taking the loss. The sophomore right-hander allowed five hits, walked three, and struck out three.
