Softball Falls In Extra Innings

The Chippewas (5-6) play Rhode Island (9 a.m.) and then Georgetown (11:30 a.m.) on Sunday.
Shannon Stein and Kelsey Alexander homered to lead CMU's eight-hit attack. Skylar Coberley finished with three hits.
CMU trailed, 4-2, entering the bottom of the seventh. Alexander homered to lead off the inning and then Michaleigh Vallimont drew a two-out walk and moved to second on a walk to Katie Tobias. Coberley then singled to drive in Vallimont with the tying run.
Middle Tennessee scored three runs on three hits off Grace Lehto in the top of the eighth to break a 4-4 tie.
The Chippewas managed to get one back in the bottom of the eighth when Emily Bracamonte, placed at second base under the tie-breaker rule, scored on an error. Stein, who leads CMU with five home runs, flied out with two on to end the game.
Lehto took the loss in relief of starter Kaitlyn Bean. Lehto allowed four runs on five hits, walked three and struck out three. Bean went 3 1/3 innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on seven hits while walking one and striking out three.
