Baseball Hits On All Cylinders In Rolling Past Oakland

The Chippewas (18-10) extended their overall win streak to nine games. They are scheduled to play a four-game series at Bowling Green (9-20, 6-12 MAC) starting on Friday, April 15 (3 p.m.) at the Falcons' Steller Field. The Chippewas are in first place in the MAC at 13-1 and have won 13 consecutive conference starts.
The 21 runs are a season high as are the Chippewas' 15 hits, their three home runs, and their 14 walks. Eleven Chippewas had at least one hit and 10 drove in runs.
The highlight hit was Jakob Marsee's third-inning grand slam, the first such hit by a Chippewa this season. Danny Wuestenfeld added a two-run homer later in the inning, and Zach Lechnir hit his second career homer in the seventh.
It was the fourth homer of the season for both Marsee and Wuestenfeld. Wuestenfeld, who on Tuesday was named the MAC Player of the Week has homered three times in his last six games. Marsee leads the Chippewas with 32 RBI, while Wuestenfeld has 31. Marsee is tied for first in the MAC in that department, while Wuestenfeld is tied for third.
Freshman left-hander Adam Mrakitsch got the start for CMU. He gave up one run on five hits and struck out one in 2 2/3 innings. Clayton Brock (1-0) hurled 1 1/3 innings in relief, allowing two hits for the win.
Michael Conte, Ben Vitas, Garrett Willis and Drew Alsobrooks also took a turn on the mound for the Chippewas.
Garrett Navarra and Colton Coca added three RBI for the Chippewas, while Mario Camilletti, Drew Lechnir, Robby Morgan and Navarra finished with two hits each.
