Sophomore is first from CMU to post a top-10 finish in league tournament
HOLLAND, Ohio – Ashley Goh made Central Michigan women's golf history on Sunday, becoming the first Chippewa to finish in the top 10 at the Mid-American Conference Championship.
Goh, a sophomore from Malaysia, shot a final-round 7-over 79 to finish with a 54-hole 230 total and in a tie for ninth place with Johanna Lea Ludviksdottir of Northern Illinois.
Goh opened the tournament on Friday with a 76 and then posted a 75 in Saturday's second round. Her 230 total is a CMU record for the MAC Championship and her ninth-place finish is the best by a CMU student-athlete in the event since the university resurrected the program in 2014-15.
Goh set the previous CMU MAC Championship scoring mark (233) and recorded the best finish (14th) in 2021.
The Chippewas posted a 327 team score on Sunday to finish in eighth place in the 10-team field with a 962 total. Both the score and the finish are program bests for CMU.
CMU's Padgett Chitty posted her third consecutive 81 on Sunday to finish with a 243 total and among a group tied for 26th. Also for CMU, Casilda Allendesalazar shot 84 to finish at 244 and tied for 28th; Zoe Vartyan shot 83 and finished at 245 and tied for 32; and Claudia Salvador carded an 84 to finish in 48th place at 265.
Kent State, which is ranked 43rd nationally, shot 299 on Sunday to finish with an 889 team total for its 23rd consecutive MAC Championship crown. Northern Illinois shot 304 to finish in second place at 907.
Northern Illinois' Jasmine Ly closed with her second consecutive 73 to finish with a 1-under 215 total for the individual title. She finished four shots ahead of Kent State's Chloe Salort.
