MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Buffalo used the big inning and Central Michigan failed to capitalize on enough opportunities on Friday as the Bulls handed CMU a 7-5 loss in the opener of a three-game Mid-American Conference softball series at Margo Jonker Stadium.
The teams conclude the series on Saturday (1 p.m) with a doubleheader. The Chippewas are 22-21, 13-8 MAC; Buffalo is 18-21, 9-11. The Chippewas sit in third place in the MAC standings. The top four teams earn a berth into the league tournament.
Alexis Lucyshyn's three-run homer highlighted a four-run third inning that gave the Bulls a 5-2 lead.
Shannon Stein homered leading off the seventh to draw CMU to 7-5. The Chippewas then got a single and a walk with two out, but Lucyshyn induced a game-ending groundout.
