Softball Drops Series Finale At Kent State

KENT, Ohio – Two Central Michigan errors led to all six Kent State runs on Wednesday as the Golden Flashes handed the Chippewas a 6-3 Mid-American Conference softball loss at Kent's Diamond at Dix.
The Chippewas dropped two of the three games in the series. They are 14-15, 5-3 MAC, and play host to Northern Illinois in a three-game league series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 9 (1 p.m.). Kent State is 11-18, 3-8.
Kent State scored five runs in the third inning and one in the sixth on Wednesday. None of the six runs was earned.
The Golden Flashes' third-inning outburst started with none on and two out. Brooklyn Whitt reached on an error, Julia Mazanec singled and then they loaded the bases with a walk. Emily Lippe hit a grand slam to put Kent State in front, 4-1, and then Madison Hershberger followed with a homer to make it 5-1.
The Golden Flashes got a one-out single from Hershberger in the fifth. She moved to third on a double and scored on an error.
Skylar Coberley accounted for two of the Chippewas' runs. She hit a solo homer in the fourth and scored on an error in the second after she had doubled. The home run was her third of the season.
CMU's final run came on an Abbey Tolmie RBI groundout in the seventh.
Grace Lehto (7-8) took the loss. She allowed six hits, walked one and struck out two. Kailyn Bean and Caitlyn Britton both worked in relief.
Andrea Scali went six innings for the win. She allowed five hits and walked two. The Chippewas struck out nine times in the game.
