MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Kelly Hoyt scored a career-high six goals on Saturday and coach Sara Tisdale earned her 100th career win as the Central Michigan lacrosse team defeated Detroit Mercy, 18-9, in a Mid-American Conference game at the CMU Lacrosse/Soccer Complex.
CMU (7-6), which outshot the Titans, 36-18, improved to 5-1 MAC.
The Chippewas dominated on the score board and the stat sheet, finishing with large margins in shots, shots on goal, free position shots, forced turnovers, clears, and ground balls.
Audrey Whiteside scored five goals and had three assists for CMU, while Maggie Diebold added four goals.
"This year especially (the team) continues to make me better," Tisdale said. "They make me a better coach, they make me a better person, and I love waking up every single day knowing I get to be around them doing something we love."
Tisdale, who came to CMU after a highly successful run at Augustana (Ill.) College, has been the Chippewas' coach for all seven years of the program's history and has built the program into one of the best in the MAC.
"It's been a very cool journey, it hasn't always been easy, but every single day has been worth it," Tisdale said.
The Chippewas also celebrated Senior Day with a post-game ceremony during which eight seniors were recognized.
"All of these individuals in this class have been so much fun to watch grow and develop," Tisdale said. "They're the glue that brings the first-class ideas into the third class and fourth class. It's a legacy effect. For us to be able to watch these student-athletes grow over the past four years, it's been fun."
Alexa Martel earned a win in goal, making four saves.
Central Michigan travels to Kent State on Saturday, April 16 (1 p.m.) for a MAC game. CMU will then return home to entertain Youngstown State on Monday, April 18 (12 p.m.) for a MAC game.
