OXFORD, Ohio – A pair of heartbreaking one-run losses and the Central Michigan softball team's season has come to an end.
The third-seeded Chippewas fell to top-seeded Miami (Ohio), 2-1, in eight innings, and then dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 4 Bowling Green in an elimination game on Friday at the Mid-American Conference Tournament at Miami Softball Stadium.
The Chippewas, who opened the tournament with a 7-1 win over No. 2-seed Ohio on Thursday, finished 27-26.
Reagan Williamson, Bowling Green's cleanup hitter, homered with one out in the top of the seventh inning to account for the only run in the Chippewas' elimination-game loss.
CMU went down in order in the bottom of the seventh against the Falcons' Payton Gottshall (25-11), the MAC Pitcher of the Year who held CMU to two hits, a Samantha Mills third-inning single and an Emily Bracamonte double in the fifth.
Gottshall struck out eight and did not issue a walk.
Kaitlyn Bean (7-11) was superb in the circle for the Chippewas. She allowed four hits, walked one and struck out six in going the distance.
