Softball Drops 2 At Bowling Green

CMU closes the regular season at home this weekend with a three-game set with Miami (Ohio)
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green pitcher Payton Gottshall held Central Michigan to three hits over 14 innings on Wednesday as the Falcons swept the Chippewas in a Mid-American Conference softball doubleheader at Bowling Green's Meserve Field.
The Chippewas slipped to 24-23, 15-10 MAC. They began the day in second place in the league standings and remain in the thick of the race for a league tournament berth. The top four teams in the final standings advance to the tourney.
CMU closes the regular season with a three-game home series this weekend with first-place Miami (Ohio) at Margo Jonker Stadium. The Chippewas and RedHawks are set to play a doubleheader on Saturday (1 p.m.) and then close the series on Sunday (noon) when they will celebrate Senior Day.
Bowling Green (28-15, 15-9) broke a 1-1 tie with two unearned runs in the sixth inning of the opener.
Skylar Coberley's two-out RBI single in the fourth inning gave CMU its only run of the day. Emily Bracamonte had the Chippewas' only other hit in the opener, a leadoff single in the fifth.
Maddie Springer doubled leading off the sixth to break up Gottshall's no-hit bid in the nightcap. CMU's only other base runner came on a Bracamonte walk in the second inning.
Grace Lehto (14-11) allowed seven hits, walked three and struck out 10 in taking the loss in game one.
CMU starter Kaitlyn Bean (7-10) surrendered four runs (three earned) on six hits and struck out four over two innings in taking the loss in the nightcap. Caitlyn Britton went the final four frames, allowing one run on six hits, walking two, and striking out one.
