MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan used Saturday's Saginaw Valley State Jet's Pizza Invitational at the SVSU Fieldhouse as an opportunity to tune up for its Feb. 3 trip to Notre Dame.
"It was an awesome day for us," CMU Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jenny Swieton said. "Exactly what we needed. We had a chance to do some good things."
The Chippewas got victories from Mohogany Wells (shot put) and Kaitlynn Rush (60-meter dash).
Wells' winning throw covered 45 feet, 5 ¼ inches (13.85 meters); Rush's winning time was 7.80 seconds.
CMU's Annie Laurenz led a strong Chippewa showing in the 400-meter dash as she placed second; teammates Jaci Rife and Emma Francis took sixth and seventh, respectively.
Also for the Chippewas, Emily McLean placed third in the shot put and Emily Paupore was third in the 3,000-meter run.
CMU's Libby Munderloh, Amelia Gouin, Grace Jenkins and Mandy Boyd teamed up for a fourth-place finish in the distance medley relay with a time of 12:53.94.
"The girls were willing to hurt a little more and do what they needed to do to help the team," Swieton said.
The Chippewas took a limited number of team members to the meet as several sat out in order to recharge for next weekend's Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame.
