MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Emily Paupore of Central Michigan Cross Country/Track and Field has been awarded the GO TEACH Dr. Pepper grand prize of $10,000 on top of the initial $2,500 award by the Mid-American Conference, announced during Saturday's Chippewa football game against Akron.
The College Football Playoff Foundation (CFP Foundation) and Dr Pepper have awarded over 260 student-athletes aspiring to pursue a career in teaching and education with the Go Teach Giveaway. Each MAC institution selected one individual to earn $2,500 with the grand prize winner earning another $10,000.
Paupore, a redshirt junior, is an elementary education major with an emphasis on grades PK-6. She holds a 3.94 grade-point average.
"Emily is one of the most sincere and caring student-athletes I have ever worked with," said Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Jenny Swieton. "She cares for her teammates and everyone around her, and she is also one of the most accepting people I have ever met."
Driven by her faith, Paupore aspires to work in countries where education is less accessible. Over her 2023 spring break, she traveled to Guatemala to deliver water filters and made meaningful connections with the residents about the lack of accessible education in the area.
"Throughout Emily's time at CMU she has been involved with lots of things outside the team," Swieton said. "She tutors weekly and works with a youth group, she also works at a summer camp every year."
One of Paupore's goals as she takes the next steps in her career as an educator is to teach others how to teach, so that children can learn and work with other members within their community. She is currently involved with a ministry called Kids Hope, where she mentors 4th graders on a weekly basis.
While she excels in the classroom, Paupore also excels in athletic competition, as she set the CMU women's cross country five-kilometer program record on Sept. 29 at the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invite.
