Kauflin's 76 Leads CMU in Opening Round of Chippewa Invitational

CMU 4th in 7-team event; final round scheduled for Tuesday at storied Birmingham Country Club
BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – Rachel Kauflin shot a 4-over 76 on Monday to lead the Central Michigan women's golf team during the opening round of the Chippewa Invitational at storied Birmingham Country Club.
Kauflin, a senior, is in eighth place in the 54-player field. Her 76 led the Chippewas to a 315 team score. They are in fourth place in the seven-team field, three shots behind third-place Illinois-Chicago (312).
Youngstown State shot 296 in Monday's opening round and holds an 11-shot lead over defending champion Oakland (307).
The second and final round is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday.
CMU's Rachel Baustad shot a 6-over 78 on Monday and is tied for 12th, while Ashley Goh shot 79 and is among a group tied for 19th.
Also for CMU on Monday, Alexis McMurray shot 80, Rachel Niskanen carded an 82, Lexi Schulman posted an 84, and Evanka Shah shot 85.
McMurray is tied for 25th and Niskanen is among a group tied for 33rd. McMurray and Shah are playing as individuals.
Oakland's Bridget Boczar, the defending co-medalist, shot a 1-under 71 and holds a one-shot lead over Mara Janess of Michigan and Madison Smithco of Youngstown State.
