HATTIESBURG, Miss. – A solid opening day for a pair of Central Michigan Chippewas as both find themselves in contention at The Judson at Hattiesburg Country Club.
CMU's Ashley Goh shot a 1-under par 143 and is in second place, while Rachel Kauflin posted a 1-over 145 and is tied for seventh after 36 holes in the two-day event, which is hosted by Southern Mississippi.
The third and final 18-hole round is scheduled for Tuesday, with a 9:30 a.m. (ET) shotgun start.
Goh trails Tarleton State's Lou Deltombe by three shots. Deltombe opened with a 5-under 67 and then followed with a 1-over 73. They are the only two players under par.
Goh, a senior from Malaysia, made nine birdies and one eagle in her 36 holes on Monday. She tied for first in the field for most birdies and was one seven players in the 66-player field to have recorded an eagle.
Kauflin, a senior from Wauwatosa, Wis., opened with a 1-over 73 and then shot an even-par 72 – tying her career low – in the second round. She is among three players tied for seventh at 1-over.
Kauflin made eight birdies on the day to tie for second in the field.
Also for the Chippewas on Monday, Mackenzie Baustad shot 80-78 – 158, Rachel Niskanen shot 79-80 – 159, and Lexi Schulman shot 81-81 – 162. Baustad is among a group tied for 48th; Niskanen among a group tied for 51st; and Schulman is 64th.
The Chippewas opened with a 302 team score and then carded a second-round 303 for a 605 36-hole total. They are tied for eighth place with North Alabama.
Southern Mississippi and Central Arkansas enter Tuesday's final round tied for the lead at 582.
It is the Chippewas' final tournament of the fall portion of their schedule.
