
Andrus Tied 9th to Lead Men's Golf In First 18 of The Carolina Cup

The Chippewas are tied for 11th out of a 15-team field.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Jeffrey Andrus shot a 1-over 73 on Sunday to lead CMU men's golf in the first 18 holes of The Carolina Cup at the Carolina Country Club.
Andrus, a sophomore from Clawson, Mich., shot a tournament-leading five birdies –four of which came on the final five holes-- to finish tied for ninth after the first round of the three-day tournament. He played the course par 3s at 1-under with a 2.75 scoring average, tied second in the field for the category.
CMU is tied for 11th in the 15-team field with a combined 313 (+25), above Tennessee Tech and Charleston Southern. The Chippewas are tied with Connecticut and tournament host USC Upstate.
Winthrop and North Texas are tied for first after 18 holes, with Mercer's Tobias Johnson and North Texas' Cody Winkler at the top of the 83-man rankings.
Philippe Yturralde sits tied for 32nd after carding a 4-over 76, and holds the second seat for number of birdies with four.
Trey Rusthoven shot 81 while Easton Phillips finished with an 83. In his first appearance of the season, Orlando Coons opened with 85.
Senior Arie Jackman, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 41st after carding a 77 on day one.
The Chippewas are slated for two more days of play in the 18-18-18 tournament and will tee off hole 10 beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
