Fast Finish for CMU at MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Central Michigan finished day two of the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on a high note, placing second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:50.52.

That capped a day in which CMU posted eight top-eight finishes en route to a sixth-place finish with 53 points. Eastern Michigan claimed the title with 89.5 points. Eleven teams comprised the meet at Bowling Green's Perry Field House.

"We just have to continue to work hard to be ready for the outdoor season," CMU Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jenny Swieton said. "We have some people ready to break through and after watching their teammates do well this weekend, they are ready to take big steps of their own."

Jericha Petrella, Annie Laurenz, Peyton Korytkowski and Emma Fountain comprised CMU's 4x400 relay squad, which finished in a season-best 3:50.52 and worked their way from fourth place at the midway point to within a whisker of race-winner Northern Illinois (3:50.19).

CMU student-athletes scored in five field events, including two each in shot put and triple jump.

CMU's Mohogany Wells and Emily McLean finished third and fifth, respectively, in the shot put. The top throw for Wells, who placed third in the weight throw on Friday, measured 14.0 meters (45 feet, 11 ½ inches); McLean's top shot put measured 13.74 meters (45-1).

Bowling Green's Zaresha Neal won the event with a throw of 16.99 meters (55-9).Â

CMU's Hayley Manners and Angelina Horn placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the triple jump. Manners, who was second in the long jump on Friday, turned in a top triple jump of 12.22 meters (40-1) while Horn's best triple measured 12.18 meters (39-11 ½). Both Chippewas tied their personal bests in the event.

Bowling Green's Brianna Richard claimed the title with a mark of 12.72 meters (41-8 ¾).Â

CMU's Tricia Pierce placed seventh in the pole vault at 3.36 meters (11-¼).Â

On the track, CMU's Reghan Draper finished fourth in the 60-meter dash at 7.55 seconds, a major improvement from the 7.68 clocking she posted last season at the MAC Indoor Championships.

The Chippewas' Peyton Korytkowski finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.68 seconds.Â
