Softball Falls in MAC Opener

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Central Michigan Softball team dropped their Mid-American Conference opener in an 8-4 decision at Ball State on Saturday. With the result, Central Michigan falls to 10-14 on the season and 0-1 in the MAC.
Kelsey Alexander started the Chippewas off with a bang as she drove her sixth home run of the season over the right center fence. Michaleigh Vallimont scored on the hit and gave the Chippewas a quick 2-0 lead.
The Cardinals answered with a home run in the bottom half of the second to make the score 2-1.
An Abbey Tolmie base hit scored Tessa Nuss, who entered as a pinch runner to give CMU the 3-1 advantage after the top of the fourth inning.
Another Cardinal home run made the score 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth, and the Cardinals then scored six unanswered runs in the bottom of the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, Allyssa Hollo singled to the pitcher and Tolmie came across the plate.
Grace Lehto took the loss after throwing three and two-thirds innings. Madelyn Wallace entered in relief and closed the game.
The Chippewas will face the Cardinals again on Sunday for a doubleheader starting at noon.
