
DeMers, Pitchell Cap Careers at NCAA Regional

Hannah DeMers’ and Taylor Pitchell’s superb collegiate careers come to an end in Los Angeles; DeMers registers a 38.725 in the all-around, while Pitchell scores a 9.900 on floor.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—Central Michigan senior gymnasts Hannah DeMers (all-around) and Taylor Pitchell (floor exercise) competed Thursday evening at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Gymnastics Regionals in Los Angeles, Calif at famed Pauley Pavilion. DeMers began the evening on vault. She registered a 9.825, which placed her No. 21 among the session competitors. Next up for DeMers was bars, where she put together a spectacular 9.900 performance which ranked her No. 4 among session competitors. After she scored a 9.125 on beam, she finished off the evening with a splendid floor routine, where she scored a 9.875 in the final routine of her collegiate career. She totaled a 38.725 in the all-around.
Pitchell earned a 9.900 on her floor routine which tied her for third place in the Session II standings.
"Hannah and Taylor were spectacular tonight," Central Michigan Head Coach Christine MacDonald said. "We couldn't have asked for a better way for them to end their storied careers. We are so proud of them and the way they represented CMU Gymnastics and Central Michigan University."

The duo competed in the NCAA Regional's Session II and was paired with a competing team. DeMers made the rounds with Boise State, while Pitchell performed with Stanford.
Both CMU gymnasts completed outstanding careers for the Chippewas.
For the second consecutive year, DeMers qualified for the NCAA Regional in the all-around competition. She becomes just the third gymnast in school history to quality for a second NCAA Regional as an individual, joining Danielle Espinoza (2006 and 2008) and Katie Simon (2007 and 2008). She also competed as an individual at the 2021 NCAA Nationals in bars.
A native of Wethersfield, Conn., Pitchell became the 19th gymnast in school history to qualify for an NCAA Regional as an individual. Serving as Central Michigan's closer on floor exercise, Pitchell's career and season high was a 9.950. She posted a 9.900 in Saturday's MAC Championship and finished the season with a National Qualifying score of 9.800.
2023 Mid-American Conference champion Central Michigan finished as the 38th team nationally. The top 36 teams advanced to NCAA Regional competition.
