KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Three Chippewas are in the top 10 and Central Michigan is third heading into the final round of the Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship at Kalamazoo Country Club.
Ashley Goh shot a 1-over par 73 to lead CMU during Saturday's second round as the Chippewas posted a 313 team score and stand with a 617 36-hole total, one shot ahead of fourth-place Akron and five back of second-place Northern Illinois.
Kent State, which is ranked 42nd nationally, shot 305 on Saturday and is at 596, 16 shots ahead of NIU. The Golden Flashes have won every MAC Championship since the tournament's inception in 1999.
CMU is vying for its best team finish in the MAC Championship since the program's rebirth in 2014-15. The Chippewas' best finish in seven previous MAC Championship tournaments is eighth (2022).
The third and final round is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday.
Goh and CMU's Rachel Kauflin are tied for 10th, while CMU's Casilda Allendesalazar is among a group tied for sixth.
Allendesalazar, who was tied for second after Friday's opening round, shot 80 on Saturday and is at 151.
Kauflin posted a 6-over 78 on Saturday and stands at 153 along with Goh, whose 73 tied for the second best round of the day among the 48 players in the field. Goh last season tied for ninth in the MAC Championship, becoming the first player in program history to finish in the top 10 in the event.
Also for CMU, Padgett Chitty and Zoe Vartyan both shot 82 on Saturday. Vartyan stands at 160 and tied for 33rd, while Chitty (165) is tied for 42nd.
Kayla Davis of Bowling Green, the first-round leader, maintained the top spot with an even-par 72 for a 2-under 142 total. She leads Kent State's Leon Takagi, who is four shots back.
