MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Robby Morgan IV homered twice and drove in five runs on Tuesday as the Central Michigan baseball team ran its win streak to 10 games with an 8-2 nonconference victory over Oakland at Keilitz Field at Theunissen Stadium.
The Chippewas (27-13) return to Mid-American Conference play when they open a three-game series on Friday at home against Miami (Ohio).
Morgan, a sophomore first baseman, hit a two-run homer in the third inning to give CMU a 4-2 lead. He hit another two-run shot in the fifth, extending the lead to 6-2.
Morgan is the first Chippewa to hit two homers in a game since Jacob Crum accomplished the feat in an 18-3 win at Toledo on April 21, 2019.
The two homers gave Morgan a team-high nine on the season and he has hit three in his last two games and four in his last six. He leads CMU with 43 RBI.
Morgan extended his hitting streak to six games and is hitting .450 (nine for 20) and has driven in 12 runs over that span.
Six Chippewa pitchers combined to hold the Grizzlies (18-23) to five hits while walking four and striking out 12.
Ben Vitas (2-1), the second CMU pitcher, picked up the win. He walked two, struck out two, and did not allow a hit over 1 2/3 innings.
