Chippewas look to fill the void at tight end with Joel Wilson’s departure to the NFL; welcome former Super Bowl champion Brandon Torrey as tight ends coach.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan returns five tight ends to the squad in 2023, featuring five players who saw action on the field last season including Marcus Young, Mitchel Collier, DeCorion Temple, Alec Palella, and Bailey Smith.
The Chippewas are replacing Third Team All-MAC tight end Joel Wilson, who departed to the NFL after leading the team in touchdown catches (six) and finishing second on the team in receptions (44) and receiving yards (445) as a junior in 2023. Wilson signed a free agent deal with the Buffalo Bills.
The tight ends are coached by former NFL player and Super Bowl champion Brandon Torrey, who is in his first year at CMU as an assistant under coach Jim McElwain.
