Chippewas Win Matchup Opener, Play for Championship on Tuesday

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – Central Michigan won six matches and halved two others for a total of seven points of a possible 12 on Monday to win its semifinal with Green Bay in the Motor City Matchup co-ed golf tournament at Birmingham Country Club.
The Chippewas are scheduled to face Oakland, which defeated Detroit Mercy in the other semifinal, on Tuesday (10 a.m.) for the championship. Green Bay and Detroit Mercy will play in the consolation, which is also scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Oakland took 8.5 points to win its match over Detroit Mercy, which took 3.5 points.
Central Michigan's Hailey Katona, Jeff Andrus, Ell Zanatta, Keith Hunter, Nicholas Kilgore and Lauren Davis won their matches to earn one point each on Monday.
CMU's Rachel Niskanen and Orlando Coons finished all-square in their respective matches to each earn one-half point.
Katona posted a 1-up victory over Ellie Frisch; Andrus won, 4 and 3, over Yinta Yang; Zanatta rolled to a 5 and 3 win over Lexi Meade; Keith took a 4 and 3 decision over Logan Pechinski; Kilgore took a 1-up victory from Max Reis; and Davis won by forfeit.
Niskanen played to a draw with Riley Pechinski, while Coons finished all-square with Trent Meyer.
CMU's Easton Phillips dropped a 2 and 1 decision to Mason Haupt; Brooke Morris lost, 3 and 2, to Caylie Kotkowski; Alexis McMurray fell, 4 and 3, to Jordan Shipshock; and Jeffrey Sager dropped a 2 and 1 decision to Brett Wieland.
