Hunter 5th, Chippewas 4th After Round 1 at MAC Men's Golf Championships

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. – Keith Hunter shot an even-par 71 as the Central Michigan men's golf team got off to an excellent start on Sunday at the Mid-American Conference Championships at The Club at Holliday Farms.
The Chippewas posted a 300 team score and stand in fourth place in the nine-team field. The second round is scheduled for Monday (9 a.m. and the third and final round of the 54-hole event is set for Tuesday.
CMU is three shots behind third-place Northern Illinois (297) and four back of second-place Miami (Ohio) (296). Eastern Michigan (288) is in first place.
Hunter, a senior, is along in fifth place, two shots behind first-round leader Patrick Raupp (69) of Northern Illinois and one back of three players tied for second. The field comprises 45 players.
The Chippewas' Jeffrey Andrus Jr. is among a group tied for seventh after a 3-over 74.
Also for CMU on Sunday, Aydan Downer shot a 6-over 77, Hudson Vedder shot 78, and Philippe Yturralde posted a 79.
Downer is tied for 22nd, Vedder is tied for 27th, and Yturralde is tied for 32nd.
The Chippewas teed off on No. 10 and Hunter stood at 2-over through his first five holes. He then made an eagle on the par-4 15th to get to even. He then finished his round with one bogey and two birdies.
Hunter is one of five players to make an eagle in the opening round. Hunter's three birdies tied him for the third most in the field. Vedder posted 12 pars and Andrus had 11. Vedder's 12 pars tied for the second most in the field, Andrus's 11 tied for the third most.
