Hunter Ties for 20th to Lead CMU at MAC Championships

Chippewas finish in seventh place
ZIONSVILLE, Ind. – Keith Hunter closed with a 5-over-par 76 on Tuesday to lead the Central Michigan men's golf team during the final round of the Mid-American Conference Championships at The Club at Holliday Farms.
Hunter finished tied for 20th at 15-over 228 total, leading the Chippewas to a seventh-place finish in the nine-team field.
The Chippewas posted a 316 team score on Tuesday to finish at 919.
CMU's Jeffrey Andrus Jr. finished tied for 24th with a 230 total, while Hudson Vedder and Aydan Downer finished among a group tied for 30th at 234. CMU's Philippe Yturralde finished at 236 and tied for 32nd.
Andrus closed with an 8-over 79, Yturralde shot 9-over 80, Vedder shot 10-over 81, and Downer posted a 12-over 83.
The seventh-place finish was CMU's second best since the program was resurrected in 2022-23. The Chippewas were sixth in the 2023 MAC Championships and were ninth in each of the past two seasons.
Miami (Ohio) closed with a 295 team score on Tuesday to win the team title, its first since 2015, with an 880 total. The RedHawks finished seven shots ahead of runner-up Northern Illinois, which posted a 294, the best score among all nine teams in the final round.
Sophomore Liam Nelson of Miami shot an even-par 71 on Tuesday to claim medalist honors with a 4-over 217, one shot ahead of Eastern Michigan's Rory O'Brien, who shot a final-round 2-over 73.
Angelo Luciani of Bowling Green and Liam Curtis of Kent State tied for third at 219.
