Niskanen (T6) Leads 3 Chippewas in Top 20 After 2 Rounds of Bronco Fall Classic

PORTAGE, Mich. – Rachel Niskanen shot 76-77 – 153 to tie for sixth place Monday and lead the Central Michigan women's golf team on the opening day of the Western Michigan Bronco Fall Classic at the Moors Golf Club.
Niskanen is one of three Chippewas in the top 20 at the 36-hole mark of the 54-hole tournament. The third and final round is scheduled for Tuesday (9 a.m.).
The Chippewas opened on Monday with a 319 team score and then followed with a 313 in the second round. They are in fourth place with a 632 total in the nine-team field. They trail first-place Cal State Northridge (309-302 – 611) by 21 shots.
CMU's Hailey Katona is tied for 15th after shooting 80-76 – 156 on Monday, and the Chippewas' Ella Zanatta is tied for 20th with a 159 total (83-76). Sixty-two players comprise the field.
Also for the Chippewas on Monday, Brooke Morris shot 80-84 – 164 and is tied for 31st and Lauren Davis shot 86-91 – 177 and is tied for 57th.
Three Chippewas are playing in the tournament as an individual. Alexis McMurray shot 82-77 – 159 on Monday and is tied for 20th; Lexi Schulman shot 80-84 – 164 and is tied for 31st; and Evanka Shah posted a 174 total (88-86) and is in 51st place.
Gracie Piar of Cal State Northridge shot 72-73 – 145 and leads the tournament by two shots over Anna Heck of Notre Dame, who shot 75-72 – 147.
In the team standings, Ohio (309-305 – 614) is in second place, three shots behind Cal State Northridge. Host Western Michigan is third after shooting 308-310 – 618.
