Chippewa freshman Lexi Schulman shoots career-best 75
RIO VERDE, Ariz. – Ashley Goh went low and freshman Lexi Schulman shot her career low on Saturday to lead the Central Michigan women's golf team during the second round of the of the Rio Verde Invitational on the White Wing Course at Rio Verde Country Club.
Goh, a senior, fired a 2-under par 70 and stands at 4-over 148 and tied for 32nd place in the 102-player field. Schulman shot a 3-over 75, her career best, and a six-shot improvement over her Friday opening round.
The third and final round of the 54-hole event is scheduled for Sunday (10:30 a.m.).
Also for CMU on Saturday, Rachel Kauflin shot 77, Mackenzie Baustad carded an 80, and Alexis McMurray posted an 84. Kauflin is tied for 68th with a 155 total, while Schulman is tied for 74th with a 156 total.
Goh, who finished tied for third in the Chippewas' last tournament, the Texas State Invitational three weeks ago, made four birdies and a double bogey on her Saturday round, which was eight shots better than her Friday round.
It marked the 10th time in Goh's career that she has shot an under-par round.
The Chippewas posted a 302 team score on Saturday, improving by 14 shots over their Friday round. They are in 20th place in the 21-team field with a 618 team total, four shots behind 19th-place Bowling Green.
Xavier shot 294 on Saturday for a 575 36-hole total and a one-shot lead over Cal Baptist.
Kara Carter of Xavier shot 67 on Saturday and stands in first place with a 7-under 137 total. She holds a one-shot lead over Esther Lee of Cal Baptist.
